Day 2 – March 31

We wake to a beautiful sunrise.

We are a bit lazy this morning, but since we are planning a short trip today of only 40 miles.  Our destination is the spoil islands where we stayed on our first trip to the Keys.  The winds are stronger from the southwest.  We try to hoist the jib, but the wind is still at 30 degrees and less on our nose, and that is quickly doused.  Boats heading north are flying full sails or jibs, helping conserve fuel.  We find our anchorage using Beth’s log, which has the statute mile marker, 925.  As we arrive, there are storm clouds moving in from the west, and we get a brief shower.  We set the anchor as the winds pick up to 20+ in some of the rain squalls.  The drag alarm keeps going off, although we realize we are swinging wildly due to the storms.  With the winds supposed to change overnight, we decide to move to the southwest side of the spoil island.  We’re in 5 foot of water with 80 foot of chain out and we are still swinging with the intermittent storms.   I eventually adjust the drag alarm and no more alerts.  As the storm passes, we are left with a beautiful sunset.
I get out the grill and we have soyburgers.  Grilling out always make the food taste better.
