Day 25 – 1/26/11

We arose to our second day in the Exuma Land and Sea Park to a sunny, warm day.  We are up at 7 am and listen to the weather forecast from Highbourne Cay over the VHF.  Weather becomes a major focus as it will dictate whether you move or remain in anchorage.  Regardless of the forecast today, we are staying put.  Arriving at the dingy beach, the sunlight and water conditions were perfect to capture the conch crawling along the bottom.

Afterwards we are off on our second journey to Boo Boo Hill to place our boat name amongst the several hundred others.    Some are very elaborate, etched in stone, painted, etc. The placard is supposed to be made from driftwood, but there are some variances.   I believe that they do not want paper or plastic which could enter the environment and cause harm.   We met Dennis and Mary placing their placard and we snapped some pictures of each other.

We headed back down and we down a new trail to explore some other parts of the island.  This was lizard spotting day.  Yesterday we could hear them in the bushes, but they were rather shy.  Today they were everywhere.  We hiked the Causeway Trail to the bridge and returned as it was rather warm and the trail was blocked by the winds.  On our way back to the boat, Dennis had spotted their boat pole that they had lost when trying to attach to the mooring ball.  I volunteered to see if I could retrieve it, but after several attempts, one barely out of reach, I gave up.  The pole was in a hole by the mooring ball about 20 – 25 feet deep.

Due to the warm weather, Beth decided that she would like to sit on the beach in her chair.   So yours truly, cabana boy, ferried her to the beach, set up the umbrella and chair.  There were some people from one of the megayachts also on the beach who arrived in their tender, a 25 foot with 2 – 300 HP motors.  Dennis and I commented that that boat probably cost as much as our boats.  As we were chatting, a large ray cruised by and I was able to capture him on film.

After retrieving Beth and her belongings, we showered, a must with all of the sun lotion.  Dinner was fish and broccoli, no fishing in the park!!!
